Woot! Awesome work! When can be expect this (the whole plugin) to land in official Banshee? Also what are your plans for this plugin? You already expanded greatly on the initial spec that only dealt with sharing metadata and not downloading and streaming.
Won't be for a few releases, AFAIK. I don't want to speculate, as I don't really have any authority when it comes to what gets included in Banshee.
Plans? Well, priority #1 would be do whatever I can to get this into Banshee as a default extension. But, even if that doesn't happen, I plan on keeping it current and available for everyone to use.
Other thoughts for new features would be what I've blogged about here: http://nlokos.blogspot.com/2009/04/democratic-banshee.html. Maybe importing metadata from a contact into your own library. Both of those will require some real thought, so neither are likely to happen any time soon. But, I'm sure more ideas will brew as time goes on.
I just had an idea. How about using transcoding before you stream it to the user? That way you could service more users. Perhaps implementing limits on a number of user that can stream etc. so that your upload doesn't slow your browsing.
Maybe service more users, but transcoding consumes a lot of CPU, no? An interesting thought, however. Maybe we can discuss at some point in the future.
Once SoC comes to an end, my code will get hosted at code.google.com. And, we can use that site to track issues, bugs, enhancements, etc. So, keep that in mind if you think up anything else. Hopefully, there will be more enhancement requests than bugs, though. :)
